Federal prosecutors say two former Forsyth city council members have pleaded guilty to accepting bribes.
The U.S. attorney's office in Macon said Tuesday James Edward Calloway and Desi Surtane Hansford each pleaded guilty to accepting bribes in connection with the performance of their official duties.
Prosecutors say the pair served on the council committee that oversees utilities for the city.
Prosecutors say Calloway solicited a $20,000 bribe from a water and waste treatment company to guarantee a contract with the city. The company notified the FBI.
As part of the investigation, a representative of the company gave the two men $10,000, which they split equally. Calloway was arrested while receiving a second $10,000 payment a week later.
Calloway cooperated with investigators and gave $5,000 to Hansford, who was then arrested.
