Hartsfield-Jackson Airport officials and federal authorities are reminding travelers not to bring guns through airport security checkpoints.

Airport officials say 67 guns have been pulled from carry-on bags this year and signs have been installed at all security checkpoints warning passengers not to bring weapons with them into security areas.

The airport's General Manager Louis Miller says travelers who bring guns to security checkpoints are breaking federal laws, will be arrested and may face fines of up to $7,500 — aside from possible jail time and prosecution.

Officials say they recovered 100 guns from passengers' bags in 2012. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport — which is the world's busiest airport — recorded more gun recoveries from carry-on bags than any other airport in the country last year.
