Civil rights leader Joseph Lowery is scheduled to speak in Atlanta during the launch a nationwide campaign to preserve and expand voting rights.

Lowery and others are scheduled to speak Wednesday afternoon at Atlanta's Ebenezer Baptist Church on the importance of equal voting rights and access.

Lowery is scheduled to join Georgia House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams and lawmakers who are visiting Atlanta for the 2013 National Conference of State Legislatures' Annual Legislative Summit.

The campaign comes after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down provisions of the Voting Rights Act many have said have a disproportionate impact on minority voters.
