High school and college students from around the state will have the opportunity to compete in an art competition conducted by the State Botanical Garden of Georgia at the University of Georgia.

Officials say the competition is open to Georgia students in the ninth grade and above. The goal is to recognize student talent and create items for the garden's gift shop. Items will include totes, stationery, T-shirts and journals.

The contest winner will receive $1,000 with awards of $500 and $250 also available. The deadline is Dec. 4 and entries can be mailed in.

An entry form, as well as information on contest rules, can be found online.
