The Georgia Ports Authority has unveiled a new Mobile Command Center for use in hurricanes or other natural disasters.
Ports officials said in a release Thursday that Georgia Ports Authority's entire operation can be run from the mobile center, which is 53 feet long and is equipped with cameras, computers, radios and televisions.
Cameras mounted on the center's entrance and roof supply 360-degree surveillance of the immediate surroundings.
Officials say construction of the approximately $1.5 Mobile Command Center was funded mostly through grants from the Department of Homeland Security. The Georgia Ports Authority funded about 25 percent of the center's construction.
