Deal Signing Inland Port Agreement

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal is expected to sign a new inland port agreement with the Georgia Ports Authority and Cordele Intermodal Services.

Georgia Ports Authority officials say the deal, which will be signed Wednesday afternoon in Cordele, will help create and expand international markets for regional businesses.

Officials say the state's deepwater ports and inland barge terminals support more than 352,000 jobs. Officials say the ports contribute $18.5 billion in income and nearly $67 billion in revenue for the state's economy. The industry also provides the local economy with about $2.5 billion in tax revenue.

Cordele is about 40 miles northeast of Albany.
