A piece of the Berlin Wall is set to be auctioned off in Georgia today.
The piece is on display in front of Suwanee City Hall and a live webcast auction is set for this afternoon.
Proceeds from today’s auction are slated to repay victims of a $7.3 million Ponzi scheme in metro Atlanta according to event spokesperson Meredith Fletcher.
The 8,000-pound chunk of wall ended up in the hands of an investment company that authorities say bought it with money bilked from dozens of investors. It was later seized by federal authorities.
It was stored in a bonded warehouse until April 30, when it was moved to its present location in front of the City Hall of Suwanee.
Bidders may bid in person onsite or may register to bid online at www.auctionEbid.com. Online bidders may place a pre-bid, and will be able to bid in real time along with onsite bidders starting at 4:30 p.m. today.
