Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday the number of jobs in metro Atlanta increased by about 13,000 last month. The rate was an improvement over the 7.9 percent posted in March and the 8.5 percent for April 2012.

Butler says jobs in Atlanta are at the highest level since 2007 and there are encouraging signs with construction jobs growing for the fourth consecutive month.

Meanwhile, state officials earlier reported Georgia's seasonally adjusted employment rate for April was 8.2 percent, down slightly from the month before. A year ago, the state unemployment rate was 9.1 percent.
