Runners and mountain bikers in Dalton will soon have a new trail in the heart of the northwest Georgia city.

Dalton Parks and Recreation Department Director Steve Card says an opening ceremony for the new hiking and biking trail on Mount Rachel could be held in the next month or so. He said crews hope to complete the final grade work in the next couple of weeks if weather permits.

The trail loops around Mount Rachel. Card said the total length is about 1.8 miles.

Card said the project will cost about $350,000 and has been funded completely through grants from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the federal community development block grant program.
