Authorities have pulled the body of a 17-year-old boy from a reservoir in northwest Georgia.

Cherokee County Sheriff's spokesman Tim Cavender says the body of the unidentified boy was pulled from the Hickory Log Reservoir in Canton Wednesday afternoon.

Cavender says the teen and a friend were fishing when the boy took a swim and went under. Cavender says the reservoir was opened to the public on March 22 for fishing, but swimming is not allowed.

Cavender says the boy was found about 30 feet from the reservoir's shore in between 10 and 20 feet of water. Cavender says the water's temperature was about 55 degrees.

Canton is about 45 miles north of downtown Atlanta.
