A city official in Georgia has been arrested on charges of willfully obstructing law enforcement and influencing a witness in the case involving a 13-month-old boy who was fatally shot last week.

Alan David Tucker, an attorney representing Brunswick city commissioner and mayor pro tem James Henry Brooks Sr., said Brooks was arrested for stepping between police and the mother of 17-year-old suspect De'Marquise Elkins when police tried speaking with her during a court appearance Monday.

Sheriff's officials said Brooks is being held in the Glynn County jail on $1,256 bond on the obstruction charge, and is being held without bond on the charge of influencing a witness.

Tucker said he will be at the District Attorney's office Friday morning to try to get Brooks out of jail.
