A panel searching for candidates to replace members of the embattled DeKalb County school board is working to narrow a list of more than 400 applicants to a dozen finalists.
The 12 finalists could emerge early this week. Their names would then be passed on to Gov. Nathan Deal.
Meanwhile, leaders of the Georgia NAACP, black state lawmakers and other activists plan to meet with the governor to discuss the suspension of six DeKalb County school board members.
Edward DuBose, president of the Georgia NAACP, and members of the Legislative Black Caucus have a meeting scheduled with the governor Monday afternoon. They plan to hold a news conference after the meeting.
The governor suspended the six board members over accusations of financial mismanagement and other allegations.
