The merger of some Georgia colleges won't be final until Tuesday, but work is already being done to promote the new names.

The University System of Georgia Board of Regents voted last year to consolidate eight schools, and it is expected to give final approval Tuesday.

Macon State College and Middle Georgia College in Cochran will become Middle Georgia State College. The bookstore at Macon State already has apparel with the new name, and the old Macon State merchandise has been marked down.

At Georgia Health Sciences University, officials said the first sign of their merger with Augusta State University will be a website promoting the new Georgia Regents University.

Four other colleges are also merging: North Georgia College and State University and Gainesville State College will become the University of North Georgia, and Waycross College will merge with South Georgia College to become South Georgia State College.
