Decatur Mayor Bill Floyd has submitted his letter of resignation.

Floyd submitted the letter Thursday and said he will pursue other opportunities. It was unclear Thursday exactly what those opportunities are.

Floyd was elected to city commission in 1991 and has served as mayor since 1999. The city's commission elects two of its own representatives to serve as mayor and mayor pro tem.

The Decatur City Commission is scheduled to meet Monday at 7:30 p.m. to elect Floyd's replacement.

Floyd's last day in office will be Jan. 7.
