Three finalists for Rome city schools superintendent have been named as the district looks to replace outgoing Superintendent Gayland Cooper, who is set to retire next month.

The finalists are: James Arnold, superintendent of Pelham City Schools; Jeff Bearden, superintendent of Fayette County Schools; and Bill McCown, superintendent of Gordon County Schools.

School board officials have two weeks to deliberate and come to a decision. The new superintendent must be named by Nov. 30.
