A new memorial is being dedicated for veterans in West Point.

A ceremony will be held 10 a.m. Friday at J. Smith Lanier Park. The memorial was constructed this summer.

Police Chief Jeffrey Cato said he made the memorial's construction a priority earlier this year. The cost was covered by funds raised in a golf tournament.

One side of the monument honors public safety workers. The other side is dedicated to military veterans.
