Official election results show Republican congressional candidate Lee Anderson has defeated a GOP primary opponent by just 159 votes in their runoff election two weeks ago.

State election officials certified the vote count Tuesday for the runoff in east Georgia's 12th Congressional District. The results show the victory margin for Anderson of Grovetown is thin enough to guarantee opponent Rick W. Allen of Augusta a recount.

Allen campaign manager Scott Paradise said he wants to make sure the ballots were counted correctly.

Anderson, meanwhile, has already focused on the fall campaign with Democratic Rep. John Barrow.

Election officials waited to certify the runoff because a federal judge ordered Georgia to give military and overseas voters an extra 10 days after the election to return absentee ballots for the runoff.
