A regional air carrier has announced plans for expanded commercial jet service at a suburban Atlanta airport, though it comes after recent county decisions against privatizing the airport.

ImagineAir said in a statement that within the next several years, it hopes to be providing 10 to 15 departures and arrivals per day at Briscoe Field in Lawrenceville, just northeast of Atlanta.

Company CEO Ben Hamilton said the business is working to make the airport a "hub for the aviation industry" but acknowledges that jet service is still years away.

ImagineAir is a tenant at the airport that provides a commercial charter service, according to Kim Conroy, director of Gwinnett County's transportation department. Conroy said officials are committed to keeping the airport a publicly operated, general aviation airport.
