The committee appointed to find the next president of the University of Georgia has met for the first time.

The group has a list of ideal qualities they hope to find in the college's new leader and says they want a visionary fundraiser who has integrity.

The committee is tasked with narrowing down the list of about 30 to 50 candidates to about eight, then select a short list of three to five finalists. The final selection is up to the Board of Regents.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports the committee is set to meet again in about six weeks, and should have a good list of candidates to consider. Quality candidates are more likely to come through nominations by contacts in higher education or from committee members.
