Cory Smith is making the journey to raise awareness for veterans' issues and to reunite with his wife and infant daughter who live in Indiana.
He arrived in Louisville, Kentucky Wednesday.
The run is in partnership with GallantFew, a nonprofit veteran’s mentor network.
According to a statement from Smith on GallantFew’s website, Smith says, “I want to inspire veterans who may need to be shown that they can make it through the rough times.”

Smith is scheduled to compete his mission Feburary 8th.
