One of the last surviving actors from the Wizard of Oz died Tuesday in a Middle Georgia hospital at the age of 93. Karl Slover was known as the lead trumpeter.

Slover was one of 124 little people who appeared in the film. He spent the last several years living in a Dublin Georgia retirement home.

He said his father’s final words hurt when he turned him over to the traveling “Singer Midget” show in Berlin at the age of nine.

“The reason I’m getting rid of my son because he won’t be able to step into my footsteps. He won’t be able to grow so that’s why I’m getting rid of him. I really felt kind of bad about that.”

Slover traveled to Hollywood in 2007 when the munchkins got their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Now just three munchkins remain.
