A yarn plant in Rome will close two days after Christmas, affecting the jobs of some 227 workers.

Mohawk Industries has announced it will close its spun yard plant on Huffaker Road. Senior Human Resources Director Jerry Hendrix told the Rome News-Tribune that the company will identify new roles for those workers at nearby facilities and provide other assistance.

Mohawk continues to operate another mill in Rome and additional facilities in Calhoun and Summerville.
