A plant in Macon that makes plastic cans is scheduled to close, putting more than 60 employees out of work.
Executives with Plastican Inc. say they are closing the firm's Macon plant, leaving about 65 employees without jobs.

Jeff O'Connell of BWAY Corporation, which owns Plastican, tells The Telegraph of Macon that operations will shut down in the next 60 to 90 days. He said employees were notified recently of the plant's closure.

The Macon plant manufactures five-gallon plastic cans.

O'Connell said BWAY has two other plants in the Georgia towns of Newnan and Lithonia, and had to close one of the three. He said shutting down the Macon operation made the most sense.

BWAY has 23 plants in the United States and Canada including the Plastican operations. The manufacturer makes both plastic and metal pails.

Plastican is based in Leominster, Mass.
