A Georgia Bureau of Investigation team is going through records at the Wilkinson County Tax Commissioner's Office looking into possible theft.

Ocmulgee Circuit District Attorney Fred Bright says he wrote a letter to the GBI requesting the investigation.

GBI Special Agent Tom Davis and a team of investigators shut down the tax office on Wednesday and went through computer files and hard-copy files to see if money had been taken from the office.

Davis says a computer forensic investigator and a forensic auditor are among the agents conducting the investigation, which he says probably will take weeks.

The tax office reopened for business Wednesday afternoon after being closed for most of the day.
