Deal Appoints Six To School Board

Nearly half of the Georgia Board of Education will be brand new after Gov. Nathan Deal appointed six new members.

The board oversees the state Department of Education, setting policy and curriculum for public schools in Georgia. The new members include: LaGrange teacher Helen Odom Rice, Home Depot executive Daniel Israel, Georgia Transmission Corp. chief financial officer Barbara Hampton and Rome physician Dr. J. Grant Lewis.

They also include Kenneth Mason, director of urban initiatives for the Southern Regional Education Board, and Lawrenceville risk management consultant Mike Royal.
