State forest rangers used bulldozers to contain a wildfire that had burned about 2,250 acres in Brantley County by early Wednesday.

The fire started Monday on Varn Timber Co. land, and gusty winds helped it spread quickly to threaten some homes near the Hickox community.

Late Tuesday, Frank Sorrells, Satilla district manager for the Georgia Forestry Commission, said the fire was about 70 percent contained.

No injuries were reported and no homes damaged by the blaze that began near Georgia 121 south of Hoboken.
