Last week brought three straight days of budget hearings, as state agency chiefs detailed their needs for the coming fiscal year. Lawmakers basically got tough assessments from department heads, as the state looks at the need to cut at least another $1 billion from the next budget blueprint.
In other legislative news, the chairman of the state House Education Committee says lawmakers are considering creating a new panel to review school funding. The panel is expected to revise the complex school funding formula that factors part-time students, property tax values, school size and other considerations.
