State’s Cypress Forests Among Top Threatened Places

An environmental group says Alabama's oil-threatened coast, the environmentally hobbled Chesapeake Bay and Georgia's cypress forests are among the top threatened places in the Southeast.

The Southern Environmental Law Center released its 10 top list of threatened places Tuesday.

Other entries include the George Washington National Forest in Virginia and three locations in North Carolina.

The center says they all face "immediate, potentially irreversible" damage in 2011 from a variety of threats, ranging from energy exploration to road and bridge construction.
