On Friday at 5:00pm bids are due for the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in Macon. Only two cities, Athens and Macon are expected to bid. Athens is also trying to get the Music Hall of Fame moved to their city.
Macon wants to keep both museums because they generate tourism, and went to court last week to keep an earlier proposal for the Music Hall of Fame secret until Friday. They say the bids for both museums are linked and seeing both could give Athens an edge in the process.
Mike Dyer is with Halls of Fame Inc., the group trying to keep the museums in Macon. He says everything will be made public Friday.
“What we did was to try our best to protect the assets that the City of Macon has and to ensure that we can put our best proposal forward in a competitive environment and have a chance of winning.”
State lawmakers put the museums up for bid earlier this year after steadily cutting funding. Board members at both facilities will make a recommendation about where they should go to the governor by April.
