The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into how an Albany man died while in the custody of Dougherty County police.

The GBI says Denevious L. Thomas of Albany died after officer D. McMullen attempted a traffic stop early Tuesday, apparently after seeing Tomas' vehicle weaving. Officials say Tomas attempted to flee, crashed into a wall and was tasered after he tried to get out of his car.

Thomas was placed in the back seat of the patrol car and appeared to be all right, but he died before paramedics responding to the crash arrived. The police department asked the GBI to investigate, and an autopsy is scheduled
