The soldiers from 1-171st General Support Aviation Battalion will spend Thanksgiving with their families before heading to Fort Hood in Texas for two months of additional training.
The unit’s job in Iraq will be to move cargo, provide medical evacuation, and transport VIP officials and soldiers.
Major General Maria Britt said half of the soldiers deploying to Iraq served there in 2004 to 2005.
