A student group plans to rally in downtown Atlanta this afternoon, followed by a march to the state Capitol. The event is being organized by Georgia Students for Public Higher Education.

Its aim is to protest budget cuts, tuition and fee hikes, and teacher furloughs being levied on the state’s colleges and universities.

The rally is expected to include students from area schools, such as Georgia Tech, Georgia State, and Kennesaw State, north of the city.

Similar marches are being scheduled today across the country.
