The Kia Motors plant in West Point launched its second shift production on Saturday adding more than 600 jobs. This expansion allows Kia to produce more of the Sorento which Kia says is its best selling model.

Corinne Hodges with Kia says the job increase will help to meet the demand for the Sorento.

“We’re planning to add more jobs in the future. Decisions haven’t been made on exactly when but sooner than later,” she says.

Kia opened the plant in 2009 as its first North American production facility. There are more than 2,000 Georgia residents employed there. This is in addition to the thousands of jobs that suppliers have added for production support.
