A proposed court settlement would give half of $1 million in prize money won on a TV game show by the former Georgia schools chief to three state-run schools for the blind and deaf.

Those schools were slated to get the full $1 million prize amount, but the money’s been tied-up in bankruptcy proceedings for two years.

Former schools superintendent Cox won the money on Fox TV’s "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?" show in September 2008. She and her husband John filed for bankruptcy two months later after his home building business failed.

Cox originally wanted the money to go to scholarships for the schools.

The proposed settlement must be approved by a bankruptcy judge.

Cox resigned her job this summer to run a national education nonprofit in Washington, D.C.
