This week the largest solar installation in the state will begin on the roof of a warehouse in Dalton. Government incentives are moving the projects along.

A warehouse roof owned by US Floors will be covered with solar panels. The energy that will be generated is equivalent to powering 36 homes. Julian Dossche with United Renewable energy is overseeing the installation.

“When we designed this system we made sure it complied with wind ratings So if there’s a 90 mile per hour wind it doesn’t just become a sail and fly off, And we also did a structural assessment to make sure the roof can hold it.”

The installation will use Suniva solar cells made in Georgia. Dossche says that’s because the cells are good and the installation received state and federal grants that require Made in America materials. Until now Georgia’s largest solar installation was on top of the Olympic Pool at Georgia Tech.
