Regina Thomas won’t be allowed to run as a write-in candidate in November’s election.

Thomas, a Democrat, was defeated by incumbent John Barrow in last month’s primary for the 12th Congressional District.

Now the secretary of state’s office says that under state law the former state senator from Savannah can’t run.

While write in candidates are generally permitted in Georgia, candidates who lost in a preceding primary are not eligible.

Thomas has not endorsed Barrow who is a blue dog democrat and opposed Health Care Reform.

He will face republican nominee Ray McKinney.
