$1 million dollars worth of food products from an east Georgia distributor were seized by federal and state authorities yesterday. The stock of cookies, crackers and other packaged items came from an unlicensed Athens warehouse, which was found infested with rodents.
The distributor—Mid States Services Inc—sends the products to jails and prisons across the southeast.
An inspection last month by federal and state officials revealed the violations. Officials say the company did not follow through on an order to destroy all the affected food. That resulted in the seizure of product this week.
