Georgia’s only virtual charter school is now open to ninth graders.

The state Board of Education approved the addition of ninth grade to the Georgia Cyber Academy Thursday.

About 6,000 students currently log in to the on line school, and 600 ninth graders were waiting for the state’s nod to attend.

Earlier this week, the board upheld the denial of a virtual high school that would serve all grades 9 through 12.

The Georgia Charter School Commission had rejected the school based on accountability issues and concerns over its academic standards.
