Graduation Test Scores A 'Mixed Bag'

Results from this year’s high school graduation tests are in and state schools superintendent Kathy Cox calls them a “mixed bag.”

Science, English and language arts scores are up.

Math results are down.

90% of students passed the science portion of the test and results also show more black students are passing.

91% of first-time math test takers passed math, which falls below the state’s target 96% pass rate.

In fact, none of the pass rates in any of the test subjects met state 2010 projections.

Students take the GHSGT for the first time in the spring of the 11th grade.

Students who fail the first time have four more chances to pass.

They must pass to graduate from high school.
