State Representative Tom Knox wants to save Georgia's 4- H program by moving it away from the University System of Georgia.

He says 4-H, which teaches leadership and agriculture should fall under the Department of Agriculture. Knox is also proposing to move the Georgia Extension Service.

"We have to do it to save the 4H clubs and the extension systems that go with them," he says. "The University System has advised us that they're gonna have to consider cutting the extension service and the 4H clubs in order to meet their goals."

Knox says the budget for 4-H is about 6 million dollars. It was one of the programs suggested for cuts last month as Georgia's Universities try to manage through massive budged cut.
