U.S. Congressman Nathan Deal announced today he will delay his resignation.

Deal planned to step down Monday from representing north Georgia’s 9th district.

But following President Barack Obama’s announcement yesterday he would seek a quick vote on healthcare, Deal says he will stay on through March 31st.

Deal’s spokesman says the Congressman discussed the change with Governor Sonny Perdue, who strongly encouraged him to stay.

Deal says he feels he needs to stay in Congress to quote “fight against the most liberal health care agenda ever proposed."
