MACON, Ga. —
A Middle Georgia community could lose hundreds of jobs as its largest employer shifts production elsewhere. Lithonia Lighting in Cochran employs around 800 people. On Tuesday company officials at the Conyers-based company announced they would be moving some of those jobs elsewhere as part of a "streamlining" process. Jobs could go to other plants in the U.S., Mexico, or Canada.
The Cochran plant has been making lighting products for 37 years according to Raquel Wright with Lithonia.
"Any of the products can be used in say any type of commercial applications whether they're office buildings or what have you."
Wright says they are negotiating with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers to hammer out the details, but some employees say they've heard as many as 400 people could lose their jobs.
