Interim Speaker of the Georgia House Mark Burkhalter announced today he has withdrawn his name from consideration to be the next Executive Director of the Georgia World Congress Center.

The Johns Creek Republican says he's instead focusing on the expansion of his company Burkhalter International into London.

Burkhalter became Speaker of the House temporarily after the former speaker Glenn Richardson resigned amidst a failed suicide attempt and allegations of an affair with a lobbyist.

Initially Burkhalter said he would seek a permanent stint as speaker but then quickly recanted, saying he was pursuing "other career opportunities."
