Rep. Ralston: Let Us Vote on Speaker
Primary Content
Several State House Republicans say they need to vote in a Speaker before the legislative session begins next month. This comes after the current Speaker, Glenn Richardson, announced his resignation amid scandal.
Speaker Pro-Tem Mark Burkhalter will become Speaker once Richardson's resignation takes effect at the end of the month, and will remain in that position until House members cast their votes for a Speaker. That voting process could take up to 120 days. Republican Representative David Ralston, who ran for Speaker last year, is one of several GOP house members calling for a vote before the session begins.
"We got a tough session next year. A lot of important issues are going to be on the table. And I think there is a strong sentiment within the Republican caucus, that the members should have the right to vote on this," says Ralston.
Ralston would not say whether he will run for Speaker.
