In a phone conference from the Green Zone in Bagdad, Perdue said that he can tell things have vastly improved.
"All in all the spirit and morale of our troups is palpable," Perdue says. "They feel that there’s light at the end of the tunnel. And they feel that they’ve made a difference, and I feel like that too. We’re extremely proud of them."
Perdue’s trip is sponsored by the Department of Defense and includes three other governors — all from states with a large number of deployed soldiers. Perdue will spend Veterans Day visiting with troops in other parts of Iraq.
Regarding Afghanistan, where many soldiers of Georgia's 48th Brigade are deployed, Perdue said an increase in troop levels there would help support Georgia soldiers.
