
State Senator Ed Tarver has ben confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the new U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia.
Tarver was nominated by President Obama after Edmund A. Booth Jr. retired from the post in September. He will be the first African American to serve as the chief federal law enforcement officer for the 43-county district.
Tarver will have to resign his seat on the Georgia General Assembly. A special election will be held to fill the vacant senate seat.
