Restructuring of operations has led to profit for Mohawk.
Mohawk's chairman and CEO says the better-than-expected third quarter performance is due to several factors. Those include layoffs and plant closings.
Just in the last few months, Mohawk announced job cuts of 400 employees at its Dublin plant, and the closing of a plant in Dahlonega.
The economic downturn has stripped demand for commerical carpeting by almost 25-percent. Mohawk officials earlier this year said they would be aggressive in driving down costs to improve their capital.
