A body found in a Folkston landfill has been identified as that of a missing 7-year-old from Florida.

Police say Somer Renee Thompson disappeared after she became separated from her twin brother and older sister while walking home from school.

Investigators in Orange Park, Florida say they decided to look in the landfill after two days of searching in the girl's neighborhood turned up nothing.

Investigators followed garbage trucks leaving the Florida neighborhood that ultimately wound up in Georgia.

The body was discovered on Wednesday night after investigators combed through 100-tons of garbage.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting in an autopsy.
