The Appalachian Regional Commission has awarded nineteen grants to cities and communities in the Appalachian region of the state.

Governor Sonny Perdue says the $3.9 million program is intended to improve the quality of life in northeast Georgia.

Recipients work through the six Regional Development Centers in north Georgia to develop projects.

The projects range from water and sewer infrastructure improvements to historic building renovations to anti-substance abuse programs.
