Charter School Backers Appeal to Local School Board

NORCROSS, Ga.  —   Charter school backers are speaking out against a lawsuit three school districts have filed to dispute how charter schools are funded.

Last night in one of the districts suing the state, Gwinnett County, charter school supporters appealed to the school board.

However, school board members say they remain opposed to the existence of an independent Georgia Charter Schools Commission, calling it "unconstitutional."

The newly formed commission has the power to over-ride local rejections of charter schools and allocate state money to them.
